Hi everyone. This Saturday evening, I have one of the most anticipated events on my social calendar - my very first Aussie Election party.
After the polls close at 6pm (Eastern Time, I think Western Australia will still be going then) we'll gather together with our beers to see if Australia has a new PM.
So far it's been quite a dynamic campaign and many predict that it will be photo finish between the incumbent John Howard and the opposition leader Kevin Rudd.
In a nutshell, what I have been hearing is: John Howard stands for economic stability and the "devil-you-know". His Liberal Party (which is the convervative party in Australia) election slogal being "Go for Growth" - focusing on the history of strong economy under his prime ministership.
On the other hand, Kevin Rudd stands for fresh face for the future - the candidate with over 4000 facebook friends - and promising "Education Revolution" in Australia. His Labor Party election slogan being "New Leadership".
Feel free to observe 2007 Australian Federal Election through your own political lens and have your say on Aussie politics! I found the below sites useful:YouDecide2007 (Australian Research Council Funded Citizen Journalism site) and ElectionTracker http://www.electiontracker.net.au/ pitching to the first time voters of the Y generation, through four writers aged between 19 and 23 following the campaign trail).
Looking forward to your comments!
