Asia:NZ Track II Newsletter

Posted by meileng on 12/05/2007 at 05:53 PM

APEC 2020 got an outing in the Asia:NZ Track II Newsletter edited by Andrew Butcher. I have included an edited version here which includes some interesting commentary by The Lowy Institute on the recent elections. Many of you will remember Allan Gyngell who heads The Lowy.

Editorial

This month we have a strong international flavour to the newsletter. We’ve delayed this month’s Track II newsletter by about a week so we could get fresh off-the-ground commentary about the Australian election results and their impact on the Asia-Pacific region from the Lowy Institute’s Dr Malcolm Cook. Also from Australia, Meileng Tam

My column on our APEC/Asialink meeting

I published this column a couple of weeks ago..

APEC, Terra Australis

Australian Federal Election - this Saturday!

Posted by soa on 11/19/2007 at 04:49 PM

Candidates for PM after televised debateHi everyone. This Saturday evening, I have one of the most anticipated events on my social calendar - my very first Aussie Election party.

After the polls close at 6pm (Eastern Time, I think Western Australia will still be going then) we'll gather together with our beers to see if Australia has a new PM.

So far it's been quite a dynamic campaign and many predict that it will be photo finish between the incumbent John Howard and the opposition leader Kevin Rudd.

In a nutshell, what I have been hearing is: John Howard stands for economic stability and

Media Clips on President Yudhoyono's Keynote address

Posted by soa on 11/16/2007 at 04:33 PM

Hi again.

The keynote speech by President Yudhoyono also got plenty of media coverage - both Australian and Indonesian.

Major Australian newspaper like The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian reported on the speech, commenting on its impact of Australia-Indonesia relations.

And well known Indonesian newspapers like Kompas reported on it as well as detik.com.

But I can't tell you what they've said about it due to my lack of Bahasa Indonesian, so for those who can, please feel free to have a read and share it with us!

Thanks!

President of IndonesiaWe had the privilege to listen to a keynote address from H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia at the opening dinner of the Apec2020 meeting in Sydney.

This was a an unexpected surprise and the first taste of many interesting conversations we had during the two days in our meetings.

Here is a link to the president's keynote address.
